Sarah's new dress and other items I've knit lately
All this little summer dress needs is the crochet trim around the neck and arm holes. Took it to my friend this morning so she can do this for me. I do not crochet well so I am not going to even attempt it. Nadine said she will have it done today so I can give it to my son when he gets to Bangor tomorrow to sit with his father during my back surgery. I used microsoft yarn from Bernet (I think) and it worked up fine. So soft and tiny. Made the size one. The pattern is from Minnowknits too. And I started the sun rompers yesterday from the same book. This will be knit with a cotton and acrylic blend. Hope it fits her for the summer. Looks so tiny but measured her Saturday while they were here for a visit and it should fit. Oh well have enough yarn left to make the next size if I have to.
The hat it finished and it fits Grace. So will make another one for Sarah while recouping the next 4 to 6 weeks. I enjoyed this pattern so won't mind making another one. Will have enough yarn left to make a little one with two colors...brim is going to be purple and the rest in white. Should be cute don't you think?
Knit this little place mat for my cats water and food dish. It is from dishcloth cotton and is just the right size. Had a lake association meeting so got most of it done that 2 hours we were there. LOL and who said I can't knit and talk at the same time? lol
Well tomorrow is my big day at EMMC. I am really scared to have this surgery..so much could go wrong..but then again so much could go right! And right is what I am praying for. No more pain meds, no more leg and knee pain, no more back swelling and pain! It is the only way to stop all this and I guess if God has given us this knowledge I am going to be on the receiving end of that gift the doctor was given. I will not be posting for 4 to 6 weeks as I can't do any driving. I can only walk and lay down for that time frame too. I can knit standing and laying down, so I am all set in that department. And then again, I can knit almost anywhere. I am going to have physical therapy at the house as I have no way to drive into town. DH is taking 3 weeks off to take care of me again. What a man I have! What a lucky woman I am to have him and I make sure I tell him every day. He will have to put up with me like he did last fall with the knee replacement. There is no way the pain can be that bad again. Most of my knee pain is from this back injury. I just hope this lamanectomy does the trick. I have lived with this pain for many years now and to be pain free or almost, is going to be something new for me.
I have my knitting projects all lined up to do. I have to put the Joat together and do the button bands and the hood and that is done. I have Cassandras yarn and pattern and needles all ready to go for her sweater. And I have plenty of sock yarn to play with too. I think that is what I am putting in my knitting back for the hospital too! Socks are so easy to do and not to have to look at a pattern is great too! I just make a very simple sock, but very warm and wearable for this climate.
Well, take care folks...will post again in July when I am able to drive myself to town to use the PC. No phone up in the woods, so no PC, which makes more time for knitting! lol

Snow again! YUCK
A partridge is in our yard at camp! They are everywhere this year. And so are the rabbits. After a couple of years without seeing any, looks like this year is going to be a good year for them.
I am hoping you can see the snow on the windshield and in the background. Took this coming out of camp yesterday afternoon. The snow didn't stay on the ground, but it sure isn't a welcomed sight!
We stayed at camp last night for the first time this season. I am so tired this morning. A little mouse kept running around and finally got in the trap...sounded like a gun shot when it went off! DH slept right through it! Friggin' men!! Then I could hear another one in the bedroom and was hoping it didn't want to get in bed with us...lol. I only slept a few hours and then it was time to get up and head to town with DH. I am packing up the cats this morning and they are my top priority today! I want them up there chasing and catching the little critters. I am not afraid of them, but I do not want to wake up and find one in my bed! hahahaha!!!!
I have started a third hat. I have taken it out more then I've knit on it. I keep adding an extra row and noticing it about 30+ rows and have to R I P it out. Well it may just become a little more fuel in the wood stove the way this is going. I just can't seem to make headway on this one at all.
Going to pack up my Joat and finish that right off. I am not going to leave this one until fall. Could be wearing it right now. Only 34 degrees out right now...holy moly! Feels like December out there. Weatherman is calling for more rain and snow today. Come on Mother Nature and give us a break on our fuel bills!
Well time to pack some more stuff up and find the cats...not going without them today!

OLLIE! 1997-2007
Today my son and his wife had their dog OLLIEWOOD put down. She has hip-dysplacia and was to the point that she was in so much pain and unable to get up and walk without tripping over her back legs and falling by son finally had to have the vet come to the house today and take her to the rainbow bridge. We will miss you OLLIE, Grammies puppy! This was our sons first dog and he loved her so much. She was found in West Virginia when my son and then girlfriend worked at North America River Runners outside Hico. Ollie was abandoned at a very young 6/7 weeks of age at an old abandoned air field. She was crying and in a big pile of tires when my son found her. He took her to the vet and had her evaluated to see if she was worth saving. She was and she has had a wonderful life with them and us.
I was told not to let her get on the bed or furniture, but when they were traveling, we would puppy sit her and I spoiled her rotten. I would let her sleep in bed after hubby went to work in the morning. She took right over the big horse! She would sleep with her head on grampys pillow and try to push me off the bed by pushing on my back with her legs...lol What a good memory of her! She has always had an old spirit. She never was really a puppy. She was very meek and mild, but was afraid of children. She never bit them, but her eyes would tell that story so we just had to watch her when she met new kids...but afterwards they were her best friend. Baby Sarah will only have pictures of the big blond Ollie.
My son said that he buried her out in the back by the big apple tree and the back side of the garden as it was her favorite place to be when outside. I am so glad we went over a couple of weeks ago to see her...OLLIE WE WILL MISS YOU! Love Grammy and Grampy!

%$&&&##@@!!*&*^%$%#@#$%^ HAT!
Really pisses me off when you make something the second time from the same brand of yarn and you run out of yarn just 10 rows short on the decreases. Damn, Damn, Damn!! I have the purple hat almost done and I ran out of purple yarn...Same size, same exact amount of stitches, same number of rows and I RAN OUT! At ten bucks a skein, this little hat is going to be the expensive one. Sent an email out to Rosemary and she said she would ask her rep that was coming next week why this happened to me. I asked her to send me two more of the purple and I will make a larger hat for my great niece who is 4. I have more then enough of the white to do these two hats so not going to have to buy any more of that one. You only need it for the flower and the cord to tighten the hat with.
Hubby wants to move to camp tomorrow...and I don't really want to yet. I like having a TV and phone at my beck and call. We have decided not to turn the satellite back on because of the price of gas and him having to travel to work and back 5 times a week. Didn't mind it when it was 2 bucks a gallon, but this 3 bucks or more is going to put a big damper on a lot of things for us. All we will have to pay up there will be for the cell phone and the electricity and propane. Propane as filled last fall before we came back to town so will go all summer on that. We use it for the stove and hot water tank..so will just have to keep the temp down when its not in use to save on that too. But we will have the house...water bill, sewer bill, lights and phone. It used to be worth shutting the phone off but now with the cell phone we don't so we still have the computer at home to use when we come to town.
This really blows my mind...at our age we are now having to skimp and save on everything we do....no more leaving a light on just because! No more taking a ride around town for something to do...we literally are being held prisoners in our home because of the greed of the oil companies! What a life this is! Land of plenty all right. Just not enough money to do anything with. And our light bills will be going up next month and our water bill will be jumping up another 23% in June too. No raise for the workers, but all the utilities are getting them! Next we'll be out on the street..and not just me...it will be me and you! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!! God Bless America! We need it! And Iraq!!!! Do not get me started on that one. Our poor soldiers dying for a people that hates us! The whole world hates us! We need to tell them to shove it up where the sun don't shine and take care of us! What a tax relief that would be to us all. Just think of all that money we give to the whole world and we can't even be bothered to take care of ourselves...but uncle SAM knows best...just ask George! lol
Enough of that..so I will step off my soap box and let someone else take over. (Bowing)
Sorry about that...back to knitting.
Have one sock cuff knitted for my sock swap. I have never done one of these and the lady I got is in MN so she will love a pair of Maine Made wool socks. We decided to swap after summer is over. Will give her time to knit hers up and me time to make several pair and then decide which ones I will send her. She said she has only been knitting for a few years and it takes her a couple of months to knit up a pair. Not me...two days and I'm done with a pair. But I have been knitting socks for almost 40 years and only do one kind of pattern..no fancy designs in them, no holes to let the cold air in and I just like to make them simple...lol
Have my projects all ready for camp too. Have my needles all in the bags and ready to be put back in the plastic containers I have for my knitting supplies that I take to camp every year. And will leave projects some here in shopping bags with the patterns in them so hubby can just bring them up when I need them. Do not have all that much room up there to store them so the house in town will have no one living in it that will need the space they will take up...just can't leave them on the furniture...haha no cats so no need. They will be going with us too.
Well off to read my email and off to bed already past midnight so it's tomorrow! lol

Just reading this email from my niece wow if this isn't the truth! Whoever wrote this did a good job...Well written!
Subject: Take down the bird feeder. . . . . . . . .
This is really something to think about. It might just solve a lot of the
on-going problems in America today. I agree with the theory anyway. If you
don't----that's your right too.
I bought a bird feeder & hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.
Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous
flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started
building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the
barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the
table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive
bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I
fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down
the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their
mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon,
the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding
their rights to a free meal.
Now lets see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be a
automatic citizen. Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands.
Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are
housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room
doctor. Your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over
half the class doesn't speak English:
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box;
I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English;
AND, people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.
Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder......

Camp May 5 & 6 2007
This is the cove...too much ice to put the water line in yet. The rest of the lake is open.
A little closer pic of the cove. Tons of ice still out there on our end of the lake.
Two Ravens on the tracks eating something!
The two ravens in flight. Hubby hollered at them so I was able to get this picture of them in flight.
We went to camp Saturday and started cleaning up after the mice that took over again during the winter months. We emptied all the traps and then reset them. Got the windows done inside and out thanks to hubbys help doing the outsides and the patio doors for me. Bedroom ones will be the next time I hope.
As you can see, today the ice is gone. Now to get the pump to camp and the hose into the lake. Water is too rough today for that. Next time up maybe??? No think we will wait until we can stay. That way if the temps drop below freezing at night we can run the water to keep the lines from freezing and breaking. Been there, done that! Too many times! lol
Sunday we spent the day cleaning out all the dishes and packing them up to bring home to run through the dishwasher. There was mice poop in some of the saucers so that meant they were running over all of the stuff so bring it home to the dishwasher to disinfect them good. We had two traps that had to be emptied due to dead mice in them today. I also decided to take the afghan off the back of the couch and the blanket that I have over the cushions home to wash them instead of waiting to turn the water on. Well what a surprise I had! Sunflower seeds and elbow macaroni inside the blanket and under the cushions. I used the vacuum to pick that up and low and behold there were more inside the bedding! So I took the cushions off the couch and went to pull the bed out when I noticed tons of seeds inside the bedding! I rolled it up and took it outside to shake it out. Now I know where all the bird seed went this winter. Had found a little pile of in behind a birthday card under the little doily that it was sitting on yesterday. Thought that was so cute...yeah right the little bastards! Teach them to mess around with me! Hope there are more of them in the traps tomorrow. LOL Have a lot to do this week if we hope to move in Saturday. Washing machine is going and so is the dishwasher right now.

Had a cute little squirrel today on the feeders. Too bad he will become food for Tonto. Last year we didn't have one critter left after the cat got done killing them all off. And the mice! Not as many as in previous years, but still had a couple on the deck every morning that he and Penny would catch. And the inside ones will be fun for Samantha and Feather to chase. They play with them until they finally kill it. Many nights we have had to get up and chase them with the mouse in their mouth to take it away so we could get some sleep! One time, Feather decided to bring the damn thing to us in bed and drop it while the mouse was still alive. LOL I can't see a thing without my glasses so I didn't have a clue as to what was going on. Poor Hubby! He was up chasing the mouse around trying to hit it with his steel toed boots. LOL I wish I would have had a cam-corder then. It would have been priceless. There is a little more to this story but won't tell ya just what that is...it's a secret and that's what makes it so funny to us!
Well, time to go put the clothes in the dryer and do the next one. Boy that old washer and dryer are sure getting a last big workout before we take off for the summer. And its time to start supper too. HMMMM what to have????
Oh yeah, before I forget. I started the purple hat for my DGD.I have the brim done and hope to get the top part on tonight. It is the same pattern as the blue one. Mom said it fit her good and she was very pleased that the back of the brim of the hat would cover Sarah's neck so she won't have to worry about sunburn on that part of her. And mom is sending me two pictures...one is without her face. I am going to try to get those scanner and on the blog this week..don't have them yet, but when they get here I will do that. Once we move to camp, I won't be posting too often if at all. I will be having my back surgery in two weeks and that will prevent me from driving for a month or so. Oh well, DH will be at my beck and call again! God love him! He's been thinking about trading me in on a newer model...one that won't come with all these age problems...lol Yeah right! He has all he can do to put up with me, can't imagine him or me starting over in this stage of our lives with new, younger spouses. Wow!! That would be like trying to commit suicide wouldn't it???? Oh well. To each his own.
Have to go...take care all and.....

The Hat is Finished!!!
Here is a picture of the finished hat. Now to go to the post office and put it in the mail. I am hoping that mom will send me a photo of her wearing it. Asked her to take one without showing her face. They do not want me to put any photos on the internet with their pictures and I will honor that request. If her face is showing, I will not be adding the photo.
I knit the from King Tut cotton and it took the full skein with just about 4 yards left over after knitting the flower. I have purple to do now. Can't wait to get this one started. Hope to wind the yarn later today.
Weather is so nice out today..windy, but nice. They opened the camp road on Tuesday and no one let us know. Bunch of jerks up there. Think they are God when it comes to opening the road. Its been ready for a week now, but no one can tell them anything...they have to be so stubborn about it all. Oh well. We have the camp on the market and if we get the price we want, it's gone! Hate to sell it, but can't afford to keep two places going with only one income. And I know I will not be going back to work ever, so we will just have to adjust to having one income and no more. Oh well, have enough yarn that I will die before I ever use it all. lol Now that's what is called a "yarn stash"...ha ha ha.
Heading to the PO to mail my baby her new hat. Take care all and.......

Sarah's Hat part 2
Here are a couple of pics of Sarah's hat. I have it done except for the cord and the flower. It was a fun project. Can't wait to see if it fits her. I have a skein of purple for another hat. But will wait to see if this one fits. It will be nothing to cut it down to make it smaller. The pattern has 3 sizes to start with, but I can cut it down to fit.
The weather is nice today...only 48F but not snowing. The sun is shining off and on today, so we are hoping that we can get moved to the lake soon. I just hope gas prices don't go too high as we will not be able to stay there and DH travel to work five days a week. Not fair at all! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer! And we can't get much poorer! Prediction is that gas will be $4.00 a gallon by Memorial Day! How do these oil companies expect us to survive? We have all we can do now to make ends meet. Will we have to sell our summer camp? I hope not. We worked hard to get that little piece of tranquillity...do not want to lose it now. Life is not fair! When will enough money be enough? Never by the way it looks now. We are on such a tight budget now, I don't see how we can tighten our belts any more!! The mill situation here is not getting any better either. Will it run or will it close again???? It doesn't look good for our little town at all. When does it stop? Can anyone figure this out! How do we ever get ahead when we are so behind all the time? LOL Oh well, I will keep knitting as long as I can. Have a stash big enough that I will never knit all that I have. So that is one good thing I have! Yarn to die for! lol
Well, off to finish the hat. I really want to get it in the mail asap so my baby can wear it. Hope her mom sends me a picture so I can post that too.
Take care all and
KNIT ON!
