Last Day of the Year 2006

I finished one pair of mittens for a friends daughter and started the ones for their son. Denise is a senior in high school and Christopher is in Kindergarten...great kids! Chris can sign like a pro at age 5! Preschool teacher taught the whole class and now the grade school is continuing that education..what a wonderful thing to be able to do.

The weather today is wonderful! 27 degrees and the sun is shining like it does in the summer. But tomorrow is supposed to be horrible...rain, ice and snow. TV is saying to stay in if you don't have to go in.

Went out for supper and brought the newly knit mittens with us to give to Chris and Denise. They really like them. And they fit! Chris wasn't too sure about the idiot strings I put on his, but he has already lost a couple pair this year and wanted him to keep these for a few weeks. lol

Almost finished knitting the second sock for my son. Probably will get them done tomorrow, especially if the power goes out and I have nothing else to do. Miss my gas stove when the lights go out...could always use the wood stove in the basement I guess if I really had to....been there, done that many times over the years.

Heading to bed early tonight. Alan has to work in the morning and I am exhausted, as always lately. Still not fully recovered from the knee replacement surgery 3 months ago...I hate getting old...as a kid I could bounce back after just about anything. Today I have to be patient and and wait for my body to replace all the blood I lost and repairing that is still going on from the surgery. And the pain to go away. And it will in due time...lol

Night all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ending 2006 with a bang!

Here it is, December 30, 2006 and still no snow in Central Maine! Had some but mostly it has been rain and freezing rain. I have my knitting done for Christmas on time this year. I have just finished knitting some fun fur scarves to send to my little nieces in Florida. It is too warm down there for me to make the girls wool sweaters, even though their mother says it gets cold enough in January and February. They are 12, 8, and almost 4. They will have fun with the scarves...they can play dress up with them, or let Mom borrow them..lol.

I am presently working on a pair of wool socks for my son. Purple is the only color I had wound, so they are Purple....lol. But he will love them and can use them...it is cold today..but not as cold as yesterday. It was 11 degrees above zero, but the wind-chill was 0 and below most of the day. Today it is 23 degrees and no wind, but snow showers are predicted. None yet.

Hope to get my daughter in laws knit skirt finished for her birthday in January. I started it almost 2 years ago, but didn't like the holes at the top of it. I have been trying to figure out how to not include them without ruining the design, but have not come up with anything yet....I guess I will have to get some fabric and line the darn thing. I will post some pictures of it later.

I knit some clogs for Christmas gifts using Bartlettyarns wool. I did not like them at all. I knit them according to the pattern and they came out big enough for Paul Bunyan to wear. Knit the smallest size and those were huge too. I washed them 4 times and still didn't get them small enough...then tried the dryer and they still didn't shrink down enough...oh well...bought the childrens size pattern..going to try making a pair of those to see if these will fit me.

Time to get moving today...has not been a good day for my knees and back...tons of knee pain and my back is just not letting go at all today. Celebrex has not helped at all. I just hope I can stand this knee pain for a while longer. Dr. said it could take up to a year after the replacement for my knee to feel better. Others have told me they have had little pain afterwards..just my luck.

Hope to post pictures soon.
